Dining with Food Allergies Just Got Easier—Here’s How Epic Universe Makes It Happen

Did you hear that? It sounded like both a cheer and a sigh of relief—from families living with food allergies. That sound came in response to an exciting new feature at Universal’s Epic Universe, the newest theme park opening today at Universal Orlando Resort.

I was honored to be hosted by Universal to preview Epic Universe at the end of April alongside some of the top-selling Wishes Family Travel agents. (Keep an eye out for their blogs—they’ll be sharing more soon!) This stunning, fully immersive park impressed me in every way—and the same attention to detail that makes the attractions so memorable is reflected in the dining experience.

The majority of dining locations in Epic Universe are quick service, but they offer a unique twist. Rather than ordering at a counter, guests enter the dining space, choose a table, and place their orders using a QR code located at the center of the table. It’s a convenient and relaxing way to order—especially on a hot Florida day.

As someone with food allergies, I’m always a bit hesitant when ordering without directly speaking to someone about my needs. But Epic Universe won me over instantly. Every dining menu begins with an item labeled “Allergen Note.” Selecting this triggers a visit from a chef, who comes to your table, discusses your allergies, reviews the ingredients in your selected dishes, and—if needed—prepares your meal separately to ensure safety. Your food is even delivered to your table apart from the rest of your party’s order.

Currently, this thoughtful allergy process is only available in Epic Universe, but I sincerely hope Universal expands it across the entire resort. It’s a simple addition that delivers peace of mind and ensures that all guests can fully enjoy the magic of their vacation.
